Julia
Kent
Being
one of the founding members of Rasputina and having
made a name as the cellist of Antony and the Johnsons,
Julia Kent spent years performing and recording with
other artists. The list of her collaborations is long
and features recognised pop and rock musicians like
Devendra Banhart, Current 93 and Rufus Wainwright, just
to name a few. She has further composed music for film
scores as well as theatre and dance performances. However,
the Canadian-born, New York City-based musician and
her talent isn't limited to her various bands and collaborations,
but further developed with her solo career. Her solo
debut 'Delay' was released in 2007 and media acknowledged
its rich melodies and the detailed arrangements that
came with it. After touring both Europe and North America
in support of it, Kent released an EP, 'Last Days in
July', followed by her second LP, 'Green and Grey',
in 2011. Her trademark loops, layered celli, electronic
patterns and field recordings continued to explore a
distinct style between new technologies and the naturally
organic. The third an latest record 'Character' follows
a similar path and was released on The Leaf Label in
March 2013. Having played festivals like Primavera Sound
in Barcelona, Donauinselfest in Austria, Meltdown in
London and Unsound Festival in NYC, Kent is an experienced
live performer and one can already look forward to her
upcoming European tour scheduled for Spring 2014.
